In the dawn of the 20th Century. there were a few Sikhs residing around the Menglembu area. Most of these Sikhs were dairy farmers while others possessed bullock carts, which was the only mode of transportation at that time.
Around 1910, these Sikhs applied for a piece of land in Menglembu to be used as a place of worship. The present site, which is 3 Roods 37 Poles in area, was gazetted as a Sikh Temple Reserve vide F.M.S. Government Gazette Number 2714 dated 11th October 1912 by the British Resident of the State of Perak. This Gurdwara Sahib was situated on former mining pool land. The Sikhs filled up the mining pool with sand and stones, which was transported on their bullock carts.
In 1912, these Sikhs built their Gurdwara Sahib building at a cost-of Straits Settlements $800.00. Sardar Hakam Singh s/o Wadawa Singh laid the foundation stone of this Gurdwara Sahib and also officially declared open this Gurdwara Sahib building in late 1912. This Gurdwara Sahib building was a single storey wooden structure made of wooden planks and a zinc roof.
