In the 1920's, there were a few Sikhs in the Ayer Papan and Tanjong Tuallang area. Most of them were employed as general labourers in the various tin mines and dredges. Some of these Sikhs were dairy farmers or drove bullock carts, which was the main mode of transportation.Around 1930, these Sikhs built a small Gurdwara Sahib near the Tanjong Tuallang town. However this Gurdwara Sahib was demolished in 1940. The present Gurdwara Sahib was built in Ayer Papan, Tanjong Tuallang around 1942 on a piece of land which is approximately half an acre in size. There are two rooms in the Gurdwara Sahib premises that may be used by Sikh visitors.

Baba Pritam Singh Ji Village Karaadwala, Bhatinda performed the duties of a Granthi for nearly 36 years from 1948 to 1985, mostly on a voluntary basis, in the Gurdwara Sahib Ayer Papan and other nearby Gurdwaras in the State of Perak.There are presently five Sikh families residing in this area. The Sangat gathers once a month on the Sangrand day and hold kirtan and prayers in the evening from 6.00p.m. to 8.00p.m. Sardar Naranjan Singh and his family, who reside opposite the Gurdwara Sahib, take care of this Gurdwara Sahib.
