At the beginning of the 20th Century there were a few Sikhs residing in the Ulu Kiang and Ampang area. Most of them were dairy farmers. Some of these Sikhs were also employed in the various tin mines in the Ampang area.
These Sikhs built their first Gurdwara Sahib at the Jalan Kerja Air Lama / Jalan Hulu Kelang junction in Ampang in 1918. This was a single storey wooden building with an attap roof. Over the years, this Gurdwara Sahib building was repaired and renovated with the roof being changed to zinc. The Guru Ka Langgar used to be served on water lily leaves, which could easily be obtained from a nearby stream.
In 1974, a piece of land, which was 19,950 square feet in size, Lot 64 & 65 (the site of the present Gurdwara Sahib), was obtained from the Government. YB Tan Sri V. Manikavasagam, Minister of Transport, laid the foundation stone in 1974. The new Gurdwara Sahib building was completed in late 1976 at a cost of RM45,000.00 out of which RM10,000.00 was donated by the Government. Tun Hussein Onn, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, officially declared open this Gurdwara Sahib open on 5th December 1976. This Gurdwara Sahib is a single storey brick building with a tiled roof. The langgar hall and kitchen are at the side of the building while the Granthi's quarters are at the back.
The management committee comprises of the President, Secretary, Treasurer and their ass istants as well as five committee members. The present Trustees of this Gurdwara Sahib are Datuk Dr Jagjit Singh Sambhi, Dr Narinder Singh and Sardar Charanjit Singh Saini.
Granthis who served for a considerable period of time in this Gurdwara were Bhai Mani Singh from 1936 to1951, Bhai Sadhu Singh from 1952 to 1965, Bhai Bachan Singh from 1966 to 1987 and Giani Bakhtawar Singh from 1989 to 2000.
There are presently about 120 families in this area who participate in the religious activities of this Gurdwara Sahib. The weekly prayers are held on Sunday mornings from 6.30 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. The Naujawan (youth) programmes are held on the second Saturday of the month from 6.30p.m. to 8.30p.m.
