The District of Fatehgarh Sahib is situated in Punjab State of Northwestern India. It is 1180 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Ludhiana in the Northwest, Districts Rupnagar and SAS Nagar in the Northeast, District Patiala in the South and District Sangrur in the West. The City of Fatehgarh Sahib is the headquarter of this District.
This District came into existence on 13 April, 1992 on Baisakhi Day. It derives its name from Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji , the youngest Son of Tenth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji alongwith his brother Sahibzada Zoravar Singh Ji were bricked alive here when they refused to convert to Islam. Fatehgarh also means a town of Victory due to a severe battle fought and won by Sikhs under the command of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji in 1710. This District is famous for its Handicrafts and Handlooms.
